Common Histories: LGBTQ Elder Project

MIB4Y is partnering with Dr. Carolyn Bradley and Dr. Jenny Dunkle to increase awareness of and connection to the LGBTQ older adult population in the central NJ region. Participants will be sharing pot-luck style meals and learning from each others’ life stories. Our involvement is spurred by Dr. Dunkle’s dissertation findings which concluded that many [LGBTQ] older adults wish the younger generation were more aware of the older generation and were more involved in the community in the ways they were as youth. They also wish they could count on the younger generation to help them as they age (many are aging alone) as they do not think this is going to happen. We have our inaugural pot-luck this March and look forward to more such events.
