Two dates! November 18, 2018 and January 20, 2019 12-2:30PM in Red Bank NJ. This is the continuation of the first potluck that was held last year. Sign up via our form (link), and we will confirm your spot! The last one we held was awesome and we can’t wait for this intergenerational table talk!
Here’s what we said about it previously: Recent studies show that the aging LGBTQ population lacks connection to community, frequently ages alone or in isolation, and also feels that their activism and civil rights efforts aren’t being shared as part of a common history with youth. Our meet-ups will provide common ground for conversation about LGBTQ history and social justice concerns for both young and aging people.
In partnership, Garden State Equality, Make It Better For Youth and GLSEN Central NJ are seeking volunteers to assist in the creation of an LGBT inclusive curriculum model to be used in New Jersey schools. The first step is attending the LGBT-Inclusive Curriculum Summit slated for March 2018. We are seeking attendees who are passionate about the addition of LGBT inclusive curriculum in the following subject area: English, History, Social Studies, World Language, Arts, Sciences, Math and Health/Sex education. We are seeking volunteers who have experience as educators in all subject areas, curriculum designers and administrators who can provide their time as a panelist and/or work on the development teams.
For the Summit: The LGBT-Inclusive Curriculum Summit will take in Monmouth County, NJ and is slated for sometime in late March 2018. We are seeking panelists who are experts in their field and can bring an LGBT inclusive lens to help New Jersey’s LGBT students see themselves in educational content.
Summit Volunteer Attendees: We are seeking educators in all subject areas, curriculum designers and administrators who would like to attend the summit to brainstorm, develop and plan LGBT inclusive educational content.
LGBT-Inclusive Curriculum Development Project: We are looking for individuals who are committed to this project post summit. We expect volunteers to participate in quarterly meetings, conference calls and via email regarding planning and project completion. We anticipate this project will last 12-18 months.
Please fill out the following form if you are interested or share with those that are.
Make it Better 4 Youth checked out the 1st NJ Trans* Youth Forum held on April 18 on the Princeton University Campus. A terrific article in advance of the event shared some of what participants can expect. We’ll update this post with feedback, resources and media afterward!
